Change Begins Before the Plan: Leading with Presence in Uncertain Times
For years, organisations have treated change as a checklist.
ADKAR. Kotter. Gantt charts. Messaging decks.
The usual suspects are rolled out almost on cue—structured, strategic, and polished.

But here’s the truth I’ve witnessed, time and again—
Real transformation doesn’t begin with systems. It begins with us.
The Missing Piece: Human Readiness
When change is announced, what’s often skipped is the emotional space people need to absorb it.
Leaders move fast, often before they’ve had the chance to truly feel what the change asks of them.
Teams fall quiet—not because they don’t care, but because they’re scanning the room for signals:
Is this safe? Is this real? Will my voice matter here?
And so instead of engagement, we get cautious compliance.
But momentum doesn't come from pressure. It comes from presence.
A Different Kind of Question
When I work with leaders and teams, I don’t start with process.
I start with presence. With one grounding question: “What needs to be acknowledged before we can act?”
Because between the announcement and the action, there’s a space. That space is where real transformation begins.
Leaders Go First—But They Need Holding Too
Leadership often means being the first to receive the change—and the first expected to make sense of it for others. But clarity can’t be cascaded if it hasn’t been felt. The question for leaders isn’t just what do I need to say?
It’s: “What is this change asking of me?”
When leaders take the time to get grounded, they create the safety others need to join them.
From Silence to Shared Purpose
When safety is felt, honesty follows.
But the real power of transformation lies in connection—when people feel a personal thread in the collective vision.
The shift happens when the question becomes:
“What does this change mean to us—not just the company?”
That’s when change moves from being something handed down…to something shared and alive.
This Is the Work I Believe In
Through coaching and facilitation, I support individuals and organisations in navigating change that’s human, grounded, and meaningful.
Across cultures, industries, and leadership levels, the pattern holds:
When people feel safe, clear, and personally connected—change becomes a movement, not a mandate.
If that resonates with where you are or what you’re leading, I’d love to be in conversation. Because the future of leadership isn’t just about doing—it’s about how we choose to show up.
